Assumption: China No. 1 USA No.2

I’m sorry Mr. Lee, that’s not for the 2008 Olympic Games but for the internet population. According to BDAConnect, an advisory firm specializing in China’s telecommunications, media and technology, China will surpassed USA as the world’s largest internet population.

Well how come?

Bin Liu, BDA’s Beijing-based Principal Analyst for New Media, made this assumption after he compared data by CNNIC and Nielsen/NetRatings. CNNIC indicate that China’s internet users totaled 210 million at year-end 2007. Meanwhile Nielsen/NetRatings put the US internet population at 216 million for the same period. So, like he said, “….. (if) these markets have continued to grow in 2008 to date at the same rates that they grow in 2007, we can conclude that China has by now comfortably surpassed the United States as the world’s largest internet population.”

As an independent blogger, Liu’s statement is pretty interesting yet funny. I will try to assume this conclusion as a joke since Liu is a representative of the firm which surely want to make this prediction happen as soon as possible EXCEPT if it really happen.

For tomorrow we will see
whether a joke will become a reality
